Calling on Post Primary School Students from across Ireland, Junk Kouture 2020 is back!

Junk Kouture calls on artistic and creative post primary school students from across Ireland to get finishing their recycled couture outfits in preparation of the competition student registration.

Junk Kouture is a national competition which encourages young designers in post primary education to create striking couture designs and impressive works of wearable art from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin. Student registration opens at 9am this Monday 6th January and the entry deadline for the 2020 competition is 20th January 6pm. Last year’s competition saw a range of amazing entries reach the Grand Final which was held in the 3Arena venue in Dublin. Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne’s ‘Cinematic’ was the 2019 Overall Winner and recipient of the Limerick School of Art and Design Bursary Award.

Junk Kouture’s Chief of Operations Megan Kelly reveals “It’s shaping up to be an electrifying competition, especially with 2020 marking the 10th year of Junk Kouture. We have been keeping an eye on Instagram and design updates, and we are very excited to see the standard of entries this year – good luck to each and every student!”

All teachers and SNA’s with students eager to enter Junk Kouture 2020 had from early October to register, giving their students plenty of time to think of a concept and construct a design in time for the student registration in January. Before the deadline closes on the 20th January, students are required to head over to app.junkkouture.com where they must upload all their essential information!

Upon successful completion of the registration process, a panel of judges from Junk Kouture will review and score the online entries, selecting 75 designs from each of the five regions; North, East, South East, West, and South. These designs will progress automatically to the live regional shows in March. Tickets for the spectacular catwalk shows will go on sale early February from each venue – The Millennium Forum (Derry), University Concert Hall (Limerick), The Helix (Dublin) and The Royal Theatre (Castlebar).

Key information regarding the student registration process can be found in the competition handbook which can be downloaded from www.junkkouture.com or students can subscribe to our YouTube channel where they can view tips and ‘step by step’ guides to the registration process.
