Design Description

‘Sáile’ – dress reimagines the traditional dress of the native Inis Meáin islanders. The Lobster-pot headpiece represents the island’s dependence on the sea. Felted collar, webbed hand-piece,rope-wool shawl links islanders to land and sea. The skirt: inspired by the glimmering sun on the expansive Atlantic. Folklore of the mermaid or ‘muiroigh’ was the inspiration for footwear and leg decoration.
